Care Instructions: We suggest hand washing this mug to ensure the shine and finish remains beautiful. Microwave or dishwaser is not recomended for mugs with mother of pearl lustre or 22 karat gold detailing,

How is this mug made? All our mugs start from raw Australian clay and follow a long process from start to finish.

  1. The raw clay in wedged into a workable peice of clay ready for the pottery wheel.
  2. The wedged clay is put onto the pottery wheel where it is worked into the shape we require for the mug (this takes skill and practice).
  3. The cylinder of the mug is left for 2-3 days to dry out a little.
  4. The cylinder of the mug is then trimmed along the base and sides  ready for the next step.
  5. We then create a handle (this is hand sculpted) and attach to the mug.
  6. The mug is placed on the shelf to dry for 2-3 weeks.
  7. The mug is placed into the kiln for the first firing (this is called bisque).
  8. The mug us removed after 8 hours of firing when cool wnough to handle.
  9. The mug is hand painted and glazed and placed back into the kiln for its high firing making the mug food safe,
  10. The mug is removed from the kiln anfter 9 hours of firing when cool.
  11. The mother of pearl lustre is applied and the mug is placed back into the kiln for another firing, If mugs have gold detailing there will be a 4th firing.
  12. After getting the mug from the last firing we hand sand the bottom of the mug making it smooth for use.

Please note: Each item will be a little different as they are made by hand with an organic feel to them. There are no imperfections but rather creative differences
