How is this made? All our items start from raw Australian clay and follow a long process from start to finish.
- The raw clay in wedged into a workable peice of clay ready for the pottery wheel.
- The wedged clay is put onto the pottery wheel where it is worked into the shape we require for the bowls. (this takes skill and practice).
- The bowl is left for 2-3 days to dry out a little.
- The bowl is then trimmed along the base and sides ready for the next step.
- We then hand sculpt the bow and attache to the back of the bowl.
- The bowl is placed on the shelf to dry for 2-3 weeks.
- The bowl is placed into the kiln for the first firing (this is called bisque).
- The bowl is removed after 8 hours of firing when cool wnough to handle.
- The bowl is hand painted and glazed and placed back into the kiln for its high firing making the bowl food safe,
- The bowl is removed from the kiln anfter 9 hours of firing when cool.
- The mother of pearl lustre is applied and the bowl is placed back into the kiln for another firing, If items have gold detailing there will be a 4th firing.
- After getting the item from the last firing we hand sand the bottom making it smooth for use.
Please note: Each item will be a little different as they are made by hand with an organic feel to them. There are no imperfections but rather creative differences
